I want to add content text to the home page

Hello
I am creating a town guide with a business directory and so want to have an introduction / welcome on the home page below the spotlight carousel and above the recently added.

I have tried pointing the static page to a 'welcome' page but the page doesn't have the spotlight carousel or recently added on it.

If I stick with my new welcome page how do I create a duplicate of the old home page but with a different page name eg 'business listings' and then I could add it to the main navigation menu.

In a perfect world I'd like to be able to add text box or text widget to the main content area of the default home page. How could I achieve this please?

Thank you, I think that will do the job, it is a shame there isn't a content widget for the home page!
