How can I make my directory private, so it does not show up in Google and cannot be seen by anyone who is not invited? Thanks

Thanks Neeraj - I'll have to find a way to increase privacy more than that if possible. Ideally a password protected directory.

Have you tried to do that directly from CPanel?
It's very easy.

 

You could upload a new html front page which is password protected showing nothing, or as much as you need plus only a login box to gain entry, only thing this will complicate the matter with different logins.

Yes that works, good this will sort it for you, leave the front page blank or customize it, still be using different logins for creating accounts on Geocraft theme.
