I'm a bit puzzled... Whenever we add an image to our GeoCraft site, we have to resize our images to the width of the content area (which is 610 pixels) because the widest option in the image embed options is 472 pixels (as set in geocraft_functions.php for some reason).

The sizes entered in Settings > Media have no affect on the options available when adding an image.

How can we change the widths so my client is not constantly hounding me with such an annoyance?

We need the main width to be the width of the content which is 610 pixels and not have this overwritten by GeoCraft updates.

    Thanks.

    Agreed Martin

The widths for the image on the main listing, the 'preview' listing image and the featured slider images all have different ratios...so the edges of some images are cut off - most annoying!!!

    See attached screenshot for comparison

GEO DIR PPT Template for IMAGES.jpg

There is no one image size that will work for all of these.

Support - it would solve a great deal of messing around to have ONE ratio for all three images - yes?

Is there any good reason why this cannot be done???

Please consider this for future updates.

    Thank you.

I see this thread was jumped on by the magnificent support staff, as usual.

    Not! :-(

I can't believe I'm paying these guys a monthly fee. Ah, that reminds me, I was going to cancel that.

I should not need a plugin to have images sized correctly.
    Which plugin do you mean?

Got it. Thanks. It still doesn't resolve my original issue of the coding of the theme having a max-size of 472 pixels when the space available is 610 pixels.

    Hello,

As molatin posted "The widths for the image on the main listing, the 'preview' listing image and the featured slider images all have different ratios...so the edges of some images are cut off"
To adjust any single image (for eg. 600 x 400)px in different frames
    140 x 195 px,
    128 x 108 px,
    450 x 270 px

Cropping is required to show image in correct dimension. Which is resulting corner cut off.

To stop cut off. You need to remove cropping code from front and loop page.
Download file attached and replace it with your "front-page.php, ", "loop.php"

    Thanks & Regards

I'm not referring to listings, I am referring to the width of blog posts.

    Hi Martin,
Could be wrong but when adding images to the Blog Posts you have the option when adding to choose display image sizes as thumbnail, medium or full size depending on your image size. So if you wish to have an image display as full content size of 610, then having the images sized first to this and insert as full size should work. The larger you display your images will also cause slow loading of the pages. Hope this helps.

    Cheers Tob.

Well, of course that works but expecting most people to know how to resize images is expecting a lot. Besides, that shouldn't be required because WP has the ability to resize to all out preset media sizes. Which is the point of my original post.

The 472 should not, as far as I can see, be there. What purpose does it serve and why can't we set the media sizes using normal WP media settings options and be done with it?

You can set the media sizes when adding the images, you are presented with the option of Thumbnail, Med or Full Size by WP media just like any other WP theme. Any other coded sizes I guess would be an inbuilt part of the Theme as it is coded and designed to enable smooth working for the majority of users. But if you use the image WP Image Size Limit Plugin and set it to the max size you require your images to show, this combined with the built in WP media control of your images, this solves your problem and at the same time prevents images which if left unlimited in size being 1-3 mg each and grinding your site to a halt loading them, irrespective of whether it is necessary to have to use a plugin or not, if it works, it add to the way the theme was designed.

Another point worth considering, it is very necessary to try and keep your site as light as possible, one of the main selling points of the theme being the responsive mobile version and as the site is likely to be viewed more on mobile devices than any pc it is even more essential to try keep images as light as possible, if site it is slow loading large images on mobile view people just move on.

    Cheers Tob
