Latest 1.8.2 update disaster

    All has been going well lately so I installed the latest update and now all I get is a white screen in my browser. This is installed on a VPS so I expected no problems, activated the new theme and it takes at least 30 seconds to activate - this on a fast server!

    From the admin side when going to the theme options I now see an edit window with the words undefined!

    Reinstalled 1.8.1 and all works OK again!

    Good luck with getting a response here Roger.

    These guys used to be OK at providing support for these themes but in recent weeks there has been a massive drop off of help - most threads go unanswered nowadays and I imagine that this one will be no different I'm afraid :(

    Thanks, but not quite the response I had hoped for !

    If nothing else heard from support I'll raise a link in the 48hr forum area.

    Hello Roger,

    Your site is loading faster , i tested all your pages and loads quickly. Are you using any cache pluging or what you did to get this performance.

    Hi Jalloh,

    After thinking about it and watching everybodies comments on this forum, I have moved some of my more important sites including this Geocraft based site to a new self managed VPS away from shared hosting. Its a learning curve and it was not without its initial problems but I think it will be worthwhile in that as loading increases with visitors I can upgrade memory/processor cores etc as I need. I also have more control over PHP memory allocation as well. generally I am fairly pleased with the results so far - now to get the latest release of Geocraft sorted out!

    Other than that I do use Quick Cache Pro (the paid version of Quick Cache) which I find excellent with plenty of options. After the initial page load local cache-ing is also implemented which also helps speeds things up.

    I did use Cloudflare and although it also offered a moderate speed increase I found it a little unreliable as it was US based I believe. It was also the free version and tended to interfere with my hosting providers way of doing things such as local administration! I reverted back to my hosting providers DNS!

    Sorry for the delay,
    Latest version of theme (1.8.2) don't have such issue. It is occurring at your site only.
    We have tested this version carefully before releasing. But still if you are getting any issue then it is our responsibility to resolve it.
    So please provide me permission to replace theme at your dashboard. To check where the problem is.

    Nitesh,

    Your login to my site is still valid for you to look at what happens.

    Please be aware that the site behaves correctly under 1.8.1, the problem occurs when changing to 1.8.2

    It takes a long time to activate the 1.8.2 theme and then a white browser window. I have also tried removing all custom css and deactivating the firewall but it doesn't help.

    Roger, I am having the same problem on a shared hosting server. Did you find a solution?

    Hi,

    No, I'm still waiting for a response from support I'm afraid.

    The usual culprit for the white screen of death is PHP memory allocation. As I'm using this on a self managed VPS I upped the memory from the standard 64Mb to 256Mb and still get the same white screen of death with the change over of the theme taking a long time.

    There is certainly a problem with this theme even though the support team will not admit it. I revert back to 1.8.1 and all is OK - thats where mine is staying for the moment!

    I did see you thread and it cheered me up - at least I'm not the only one. I was just about to activate a new child theme for it as well !

    Come on support - lets hear an answer other than your stock answers!

    This theme has NOT been carefully tested and I am being forced to go back to the prior version as well. My listings are getting spammed with dozens of emails from my account and I can't stop them. It says their listings have expired but when they log in they can't renew them and neither can I. I have NO ability to make edits on the back end to these listings that have expired. I am not sure why but when I try to save any edits the prior content stays in the listing. I tried to delete the persons email address from the listing as a work around so I don't keep unintentially spamming them but doesn't work... I have gotten no response in a few days and my reputation is being reuined with each email that is sent.

    Funny you should mention the emails because when I activated 1.8.2 I had listings expire,emails sent out etc

    Go back a version and several things seem to have changed - not good!

    I don't know how the developers work but quick fixes never seem to make into he release version - that's when we are told that's a version is released!

    I am still not happy to fully launch any sites yet

    OK thanks Nitesh but please give me an explanation of what the problem was as I have spent time in adjusting PHP memory and trying to find the problem.

    Also I am now getting reactivation notices for listings that I had already reactivated a short while ago in v1.8.1 - why is this?
