When I use the category widget is works fine and shows http://www.mysite.com/listcat/state-animal-care/ But! when I Select drop down list I get this, and page not found errors? http://www.mysite.com/?cat=68 Also could you provide some css so that I can make the subcategory lists collapse or hide when clicked?
Did you created the Custom Menus for the dropdown menu? Using Custom menu you can configure the custom menu URL's according to your requirement as you want.

You can make dropdown with pages and categories but custom taxonomy are not supported yet, we noted it to do in our next updation release .
