I had to add all the 250+business listings under my admin acct to get the site up & running from my previous old site... Now the entire site of business listings under my acct (administrator). ====I want each business to be able to edit their own ads but when they create an account, they have no listings showing? Ways to correct this? Can I change the author of the business listings? I peeked into the database & see their ID's but not sure how to change the authors of the business listings.
250+ listings wow! - I could be wrong but there's no simple way in Wordpress/Geocraft to do that other than on an individual basis in the business listings area (I use the quick edit facility) and even then you better have a fast connection! If you have the details to hand it would probably take an hour (or two). You can't allocate a listing before the account has been created but it would be nice if the new user could claim their listings - fraught with danger of course if an unscrupulous user took advantage of the situation and claimed any old listing they felt like! Several other unresolved threads already on this subject. How did you manage the Paypal situation for paid listings? Maybe there's a plug-in to help somewhere out there but these aren't normal posts. If it were me I'd take the individual listing update route or else go at the mySQL database itself with some scripts to update them but you need to identify which records need changing and to whom to change them to - another nightmare. Maybe support can help but I somehow doubt it - best of luck! Oh yes - a good back up of your site might also be a good idea at this point! like your site by the way.
thanks, hoping I can find the correct database page & just change the ID# to the new user...sure wish it would be that easy, haha!! As administrator I created all the listings when I started the website, with no payments whatsoever (they already paid in advance to be included in our printed book)... My site has no free listings, all paid. When I made each listing, I marked them either free or pro (since none of my ads are free, that feature just designates which are highlighted & which aren't). ....the website is more or less for those that missed the printed book to still be included in some way for a local business search. Actually I deleted a lot of ads from the previous website so it's probably less than 250 but still a lot!
Ha . . good luck - make many, many backups in that case! Just a quick note as you don't use free listings, I see that you can use the free listin as a second paid listing to offer users - - some of the theme features are quite neat!
Rogerb - got it!!!! (haven't tested it but it should work) If you do a mass upload of all your business listings or even if you just add a listing for another business under admin, they are all listed under you as the author. Big problem when the businesses want to edit their own listings, there is no easy way to change the author (great idea for an update on next version for admin!).I found out how to do it!!!Export the CSV file :Geocraft Settings - Export to CSVNow peek in your database file & see what the correct new user author ID is for the listing & change it in the CSV file.Geocraft Settings - Upload Your CSVDone!!! Now when that user goes to their dashboard it won't be empty any more!!!OOPS!!!!! tested this but when I did the upload, it didn't work?? Several warning messages flashed really fast but then it said uploaded successfully - but no changes were made? Is the upload function not working?? Can I manually upload this to where??
ok, i had problems with that first posting cause it didn't work for me & lots of trial & error. I had 250+ duplicate listings to get rid of....here's the solution: you must first backup all your database...then using the import export- export the csv file, change the csv file as shown above but also you must blank out the entire post_date column (leave the heading but nothing else)...before uploading delete ALL the business listings (yes i was scared to even try it)....then open the trash & delete a 2nd time (permanently)....THEN upload the new saved csv file (same name) & it works great! Hoping the next revision has a much easier way to do this like in the admin panel!
Ok....YIKES AGAIN (just when I was singing the praises of this working great)!!!! Yes, the authors were corrected & changed when I followed the instructions above but on the export I didn't realize that it was taking out line breaks for the business listings... so now I have to go into 250 listings & correct the line spacing on each one?? Ohhhh come on!???!!! How is this one solved now?
Come on Nitesh, this is now the only major problem preventing use of the theme in a proper manner, most other problems solved, many thanks for your support! We now want to get cracking creating great sites but this is a major problem. Please can you simplify this process. You have the brains there to do it Thank you.
Has this been implemented yet or will it be a simple way of assigning a user to the post or changing the user besides going into the database?
You don't have to go to the database with the import solution above. You just have to enter the listing author id of the person whom you want to assign the listing.
Thank You for this HUGE improvement in managing the site!!! The old way was a disaster but this solves it easily!
Hi, sorry coming into this Neeraj, but will this mean that any listing which has been added from the back end admin can now be assigned to a new user after they have created an account, by just changing the author id of the listing? Tob
