We want to create a side widget on the home page present theme as I'm wondering where to put the e-book image that subscribers can click and submit their name and emails.

Any ideas where we can put a visible ebook image so when someone lands on the website they can see?

Hello,
You are asking for the non-existing feature in this theme.
So it is not possible for us to add sidebar widget on the home page.
But you can use Footer Widget Area (Appearance > Widget panel in your dashboard) for e-book image.
