I don't know if anyone else has encountered this, but it's worth pointing out.:

You cannot us .gif files in the "Featured image" section on the right sidebar when doing a listing. You can upload it, but when you run the directory you get this notice:

"Catchable fatal error: Object of class WP_Error could not be converted to string in /home/{domain name}/wp-content/themes/geocrafttheme/library/controls/dynamic-image.php on line 269"

Changing format to .JPG works well.

But .gif files do work in the "upload image" section on the left hand side.

This issue is occurring because WordPress has the Author user role, defined as someone who can only write and edit their own posts AND cannot post javascript or complicated html.

Install "user role editor" plugin. It will resolve this issue.
Download from the link given below.

Thanks for the quick reply, Nitesh. I installed the plugin and ticked the boxes as instructed, then uploaded a .gif file. Got the same error-message. So it occurred to me to change the filesize from 280 x 150 to 500 x 300. And it worked. So I deactivated the plugin, and it still worked. So maybe it was the filesize after all.
Anyway I have reactivated the plugin.

I am glad I asked because I didn't know there was such a plugin. Thanks again.
