I want to change the description of the site, so that when I post to Facebook, it has the words I want
    and not the default:

"Creating your website with Woodpecker is completely easy. You just need to perform few tweaks in the theme option panel and your website will be ready to use. You can showcase all important aspects of your business here on home page."

When I post to Facebook, it picks up content in the front-page.php file.
And I know I can go in and edit that file and make a change to have the words I want.

But that seems like a kludge, since those changes would get blown away if inkthmes
    updates the theme.

Do you have a better way to do this?
or can you add that as part of the options of the WoodPecker theme?

Sharing our sites on Facebook, is very common, so this should be easy to change.
This should not be a php edit, as many people who are not comfortable with php could
    mess this up

    See the attached screenshot

    thanks,
    Christina

    Hello,

    Hope doing good!!

I would rather suggest you to kindly use Yoast SEO plugin.

It has the feature to set the homepage thumbnails and description that appears as a default when you share on Facebook.

Also, before posting on Facebook kindly use https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/ it will remove the facebook cache.

Hope that will solve your issue.
