Import CSV - Update fields rather than creating new listings

I was wondering if there is a way to use the CSV importer to overwrite listings that already exist rather than creating new ones.

For example: I have a custom field with Safety Data in it that I am trying to update with data I have -every single month. I'm thinking update post meta function is the right direction but I'm not bit lost.
