Mobile background image

Hi -- My site is doing something strange and new -- it looks fine on a large screen, but on my Android phone, the white background is instead populated with small question marks: as though the code wanted to insert a missing background image. But I don't want an image -- just a white background. I tried modifying the body background color with a simple line in the Custom CSS -- didn't work. I turned off all my plugins, and still no go.
