New user can't access dashboard

When I create a new user account and go to the dashboard, I receive the message:

"You are not allowed to access this part of the site"

So... none of the new people who sign up can edit their own listings. If it helps any, the URL for the blank page with that message is www.mysite.com/wp-admin. No idea why it would be directed to that address.

Solved it. Somehow the page called dashboard got set to private instead of public. Once I changed it back to public, everything worked again.
