photos are appearing much larger than I am making them

I am trying to put a thumbnail on the page and when I do, it blows up to fill the entire page and gets blurry. Can you offer any advice?

Paste the code given below in Custom CSS section
(Appearance -> Theme Options -> Styling Options -> Custom CSS) of your dashboard.

Code:

.fullwidth img {
max-width: 100%;
height: auto;
width: auto;
}

It will resolve your issue.
