I would like to add a "read more" button to the right column of text on the "homepage two columns" area. I would then like to continue the text on another page. The remaining text would be followed by a shortcode for a gallery using "nextgen gallery" plugin. Is this all possible? This is my first wp website.

Unfortunately there isn't a way to do that with our theme unless you custom code something up. Sorry.

If this isn't something you're able to do then you would need to hire a developer for this.

    Take care.

I might be able to go in and change some files - I do have training in HTML and CSS. I would be fine with not having a gallery on the second page, if that gets too complicated - just the remaining text. Is this sometimes called an "excerpt"?

I have worked this out, thanks. I just made a link of the "Read More" text to the next page that the text continues to, and then used my child theme to style the CSS to make the text red.
