REDUCE HEIGHT INDEX PAGE

Is there any way to dont show all the subcategories in the index page (example: only show only show the first 10) to reduce the height of the web?????

For example put ... MORE SUBCATEGORIES

 

Or better yet, in the index, can I agrupate it by showing only the category and first subcategory of the tree?
