Remove 'Testimonial' Feature

I would like to remove the 'Testimonial' Feature and replace it with a php snippet that would insert a slider so that I can display multiple Testimonials.

I attempted to modify the front-page=hold=php file - (with not luck)

1. Is this even doable?
2. What modifications would I need to make?
3. Any easier suggestions
