Removing area top of home page

Hi,

I like the theme but would like to remove or reduce the gray area at the top of the home page, I am trying to mimic the samples you have on your site with the navigation having a transparent look. Also how do I remove the the text from the sliders as well?

Can this be done?

Appearance > Theme Option > Styling Option > Custom CSS
