I have been having accuracy problems with the Google Map and decided to eliminate it. I have got several pieces of advice which worked for a time. For example:

" Yes, You can delete these three fields
Address, Address Latitude, and Address Longtitude.
    To remove map completely.

Also, " For this go to
Geocraft settings > Custom field > Add custom field
and create new Custom field, select Field type (text) and enter your address there."

Both of these worked well until I upgraded to 1.7.3. Now the maps are back with no apparent way to remove them - the two previous fixes have been unfixed.

I have added my own custom field -"Location" instead of address, changed the Html variable from geo_address to something else, which works fine, except that the stupid map keeps showing up.

There has to be a way to remove the Location Map - either by file-edit or by CSS.

    HELP! Anyone and everyone!

    Hello,

Edit address field and change field type and html variable name.
It will remove map from your site.

Thanks, Nitesh, for a very prompt reply.

However, as in my post above, I had already done those things.
Nevertheless, I re-did them, following your advice.
    Same Story!

I can send you any info you need to access the site, so you can see what needs to be done.

    Hello Sir,

Download "single-listing.php" attached and replace it completely with your existing single-listing.php file. Through Appearance > Editor / single-listing.php
And then deactivate address field from custom fields.
    Your map will disappear.

Thanks very much, Nitesh, for working out a solution for just one fellow. It works very well. Actually, it is not necessary to deactivate the address field from customs fields, so long as you change the html variable, as you suggested earlier. If you look at http://triniguide.info/tobago/listing/blue-waters-inn/ you will see that I have been able to retain my addresses for the listings.
The map you see is not Google's, but has been re-engineered from Google.
Actually I have found a good alternative to Google Maps, if anyone else is interested. It is at www.openstreetmap.org. It just takes some work.

It would be great if Geocraft would add the option of using
    OpenStreetMap, It's FREE !
