I raised a ticket with my hosting provider as follows:

I regularily get reports from my web site users of the following when they click a link repeatedly (perhaps 6 times or more in frustration) due to a poor response time from the host servers:
    Error message
    "Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Apache Server at www.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.co.uk Port 80"

    Hosting support response:
We have attached a list of the error logs reported at the time you encountered the server delays, it seems that the more you access website links more then once the server returns a premature end of script suggesting that it does not have enough time for the first access to complete:

    2013-05-23T12:13:51+01:00
    linweb17 httpd[11749]: [error] [client 31.51.148.42] WordPress database
error You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that
corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use
near '' at line 1 for query SELECT * FROM made by
    require('wp-blog-header.php'), require_once('wp-load.php'),
    require_once('wp-config.php'), require_once('wp-settings.php'),
    include('/themes/geocrafttheme/functions.php'),
    include_once('/themes/geocrafttheme/library/lib_main.php'),
    include_once('/themes/geocrafttheme/library/controls/main_control.php'),
    require_once('/themes/geocrafttheme/library/controls/listing_expiry.php'),

I've removed identification for security but the sql error is worrying, the site is working albeit sometimes slowly without problems otherwise and yes I know the response time is possibly poor!

    All help appreciated.

    Roger
