Spam on WordPress comments

We all know that spam on the WordPress platform is an issue, we also have various ways within that platform to combat spam, can people share experiences of how they battle that spam sent usually by spambots.

Do you use Captcha or some other method like a simple sum?

A good way is to just disable comments altogether for each page and make them static, using a simple mathematical sum or Captcha is one way to combat replies in a blog, but which other methods are people using?
