How do I stop the images from stretching in this theme? I saw you have offered a zip file to stop the cropping but they still stretch.

Its for a client website that we had to take down and re-install their old website because the stretching issues made it look horrible.

I set up a test site because the stretching is easily replicated and happens with all images.

Unfortunately it is not realistic to edit hundreds of images. I will restate my question.

How can we stop the theme from stretching the images without you putting the work onto the person uploading the images and expecting them to edit everyone item uploaded?

Follow up question. Wordpress 2013 theme automatically resizes images and I have seen these capabilities in other directory themes such as Vantage and others. Can you correct the issues with the Geocraft theme to do the same?

Just an added bit of information to help you figure out a solution, this is what was happening on the site when we originally used Geocraft theme.

Business owner is referred to directory website
Business owner goes to directory website
Business owner signs up for free directory listing thinking that if it works they may pay for better listing later
    Business owner uploads their pictures
Business owner sees their direct listing looks like crap because they didn't upload the only size of picture that will work
Business owner says "This looks like crap, I am not paying for this" and never comes back

Putting the work on us to educate EVERY customer and make sure they upload the ONLY pictures that will work is not a realistic solution.

Customers want products that are simple and work without excuses. Telling someone that they should give us money then have to resize all their photos or find different ones is not acceptable.

    cincinnatistuff,

I hear what you are saying and in a perfect world it would all work perfectly... but it is highly unrealistic to expect cell phone pictures taken in vertical mode to fit into a horizontal mode slider. In order to make your vertical sample pictures work you would have to zoom in quite a bit to fit to crop to the horizontal shape of the slider. You would mainly see the center of your shots and this would leave the heads and legs cut off. Not exactly very pleasing to look at??

There are many ways to solve this problem (not perfectly but yes for a $100 theme). You can write a description under each image upload on the submit listing page to recommend the correct image size of 450px X 270px. You could recommend to use only landscape mode pictures, etc. There are many online photo editing sites that will allow resizing and cropping. There are plugins that limit the sizing of pictures uploaded. I've seen a few GeoCraft sites that do "How to Submit a Listing" page first and then send them to the actual submit listing form. Some people do a video screencast of the submit form. Again get creative!

I've seen the support staff post the code for removing the auto cropping/resizing of the images. You need to change the code on the 2 files they mention. Have you tried that?

You said you've seen themes like WP2013 and Vantage auto resize pictures... but do those theme automatically put the same pictures into a slider and they look perfect? I know WP2013 doesn't come with a built in slider and Vantage has their own...

Are you aware of any 3rd party sliders that do what you are asking ... to auto resize a vertical picture and make it fit into a horizontal slider and still look good? If so, you could change the code to use that 3rd party slider instead. Problem solved! Please let me know of any sliders that do that because I would be interested to know which ones they are...

It's in the best interest of you to let the business owner know what size pictures to use for the listing. It's in their best interest for biz owners to submit the correct pictures so they look good. And if you are really worried about losing sales... then set the listing to pending and review the pictures first... make any changes necessary... and then the business owner sees a good looking listing and you can sell them on the paid listing upgrade.

There are many solutions already posted on the forum. You just need to search to find the answers. I even saw one post showing where to change the code for actual sizing of the photos in the different spots of the theme.

Good luck with your site! I've made a lot of money back from my investment in the Geocraft theme. Don't let photos hold you back from making easy money!!!

Hey Eric, thanks for your opinion. If you had read the entire thread you would see I already mentioned some of the options you suggested and that they did not work.

I would appreciate only hearing from the support staff. People should adhere to the "Do not post in someone else's thread." as requested by the support staff and in the signature line of all their posts. This isn't a slight on you or your knowledge, only that they are the ones I paid for not only a theme but for them to fix it when it didn't work.

Now Inktheme support, please ignore Eric's comments and answer my questions.

    1) How can we stop the theme from stretching images without putting the work onto the person uploading the images and expecting them to edit every item uploaded?

    2) Wordpress automatically resizes images and I have seen these capabilities in directory themes such as Vantage and others. Can you correct the issues with the Geocraft theme to do the same?

    Hello,

Theme don't have any problem in image cropping.
It is implemented to show cropped images at the front page and complete image at the listing single page.
Please check one of your image. It is of dimension (540 x 960). http://stretching.mystagingwebsite....01/1471191_10201967121832011_987618687_n1.jpg
How is it possible to display portrait image perfectly in a slider of dimension (460 x 280)px.
But still, for the front page image will be cropped and re-sized according to frame dimension. But single listing page slider will display complete image without any cropping.

    Thanks & Regards
