Supplying a Directory to a client - what to charge? What business model to use?

A client of mine wants me to supply a customised GEOCRAFT directory to replace their current directory system (which is not mobile/responsive and does not have some of the features of this theme).

I would supply a fully optimised directory site with many refinements, customisations and backup system etc hosted on a fast hosting service. (I'm also thinking of offering technical support for a monthly fee, once I work out the best way to do that, what to include etc.)

My question: What do you think I should charge for setting up / supplying a directory as described above that they can then populate?

Does anyone have a current business model they use to supply a directory to other businesses for their use...and get paid for the install....and make good monthly money from it too?

Hi Mo, I have been working towards this and was thinking in the region of $299 setup with $99 mth to include software updates and hosting, again these are figures I have been throwing about now that the theme has most small bugs sorted, interested in hearing any ideas on the subject.

$299? I'll pay you $299 to do mine lol. My site is http://tugunlocal.com Nearly done. Next I will approach all the businesses to try and get them onto premium listings.

You are a lot of value to others. Just the learning curve is what you have to include.

Hmmm.... I see later in the thread you talk about not valuing your time enough.

I was thinking about at least 10x what you're thinking....if not 20x!!

$3k-$6k is nothing for a complete directory set up.

Think about it - you set this up for a customer for $299... who will potentially make thousands of dollars a month from it...recurring...

What is the real value you are adding to their business and bottom line...??

What is that worth to them, not you, in the time you take to do this?

And even then. it's got to take more than just a few hours at $50 and hour!!!

I appreciate your thoughts...and we see things very differently here...

 

Thank you Mo, really appreciate you giving your thoughts, I can see I was completely wrong! I too have put in more hours that care to count but take in what you are saying and I am taking heed intending to see things more like your picture.
This is a good forum and a lot has been learnt from each other since this theme was launched and havin come a long way with a few yards to go yet. Times it is good to hear others thoughts, the day you stop learning your are lost.
