This is a very strange reply. I encounter the very same problem - all of a sudden I get those strange characters for line breaks or empty paragraphs and I would like to know why that is and how to remove it. (maybe a problem with an incompatible plugin?)

Hello helpful4you! Some time when we used pre written text in dashboard then it will create such type of issue. Pre written means just copy the text from other places and paste them. So before using that pre written data you have to paste it firstly on notepad if possible. It will help you to delete all pre formatting of text. Thanks & Regards Pramod
I had the exact same issue and figured it out. Go into style.css, find and replace "Voces, " with nothing and the weird symbol will go away. It's an issue with the font Voces for some reason. Removing that font in the font-family section of the css anywhere it's mentioned should solve your issue.
