Hello Inkthemes' Team, hello Geocraft Clients, Geocraft is probably the theme which is the most customized by Inkthemes' Clients. To facilitate the updating and the protection of customized themes, I would suggest Inkthemes' Team the following things. 1. Establishing Release Notes which will be informed to all Geocraft Clients, via email, when a bug is fixed or an enhancement is made to the theme (and not only when a software release is done, as until now). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Release_notes That seems particularly important, because during the current development period of Geocraft, bugs are often fixed and small enhancements are often done. Without delving very hardly into the Forum, no one can know those improvements! In addition, that way, all Clients who customize the theme will know easily and exactly what we have to do to update our customized themes correctly (without asking Inkthemes' Team for help). 2. The theme is 100% open but currently entirely unprotected. For Geocraft Clients who call on freelancers for instance to customize the theme, that may sometimes cause a protection issue. A minimum protection, in one way or another, should be implemented (or at least advised to Geocraft Clients), allowing us to protect our works - sometimes very expensive (not only financially). Many Thanks. Anto
I strongly agree with the Geocraft mailing list / update feature. As it would let the owner know when to update their customized theme / alert of unknown problems. Any chance you can go into more depth on the unprotected part? What exactly do you mean by this? PS: Customizing the theme is up to us, and not Geocrafts problem if updating errors are encountered. Having problems and customizing a broken old theme version can be annoying however when you buy a theme, thinking its 100% working. Although uber nice of them to have this support forum ^^ Also, the list of edited files, from theme to theme is very important, and should be added to every updated version. -Kent
Hi Kent, - "Customizing the theme is up to us, and not Geocrafts problem if updating errors are encountered". Yes, you're entirely right. - "Also, the list of edited files, from theme to theme is very important, and should be added to every updated version.". This information would be informed to Geocraft Clients via Release Notes, regularly. - About the protection, I think we'd better to wait for Inkthemes' Team opinion first. They are fully experienced in this field. I'm sure they understand what does it mean and will be able to give us some useful solutions. Anto
Yeah I agree with you Anto. The 'protection' thing is just throwing me off. Wordpress itself has a fault of getting hacked into, and there are plugins out there to prevent this / hide your Wordpress appearance. However I do not believe this has anything to do with the Geocraft theme. -Kent
