Where can you limit the amount of listings on homepage/index

Where can you limit the amount of listings on homepage/index in the dashboard?

Or in which .php file can it be changes?

I thought that you did this under the settings>reading and Blog pages show at most posts

Yes, that's what I did. Keep in mind that will not give you Pagination. Whatever number you put in there is the most Recently Added listings that will show up. I set mine to 8. There IS pagination on the pages where we need it. When browsing, searching, and on the category pages.

 

I've set mine to less I'm afraid in order to get a faster page load time for first time visitors - 4 is good for me, 8 starts to show a ladder effect as the slider takes its time loading because of the home page listing quantity. If that makes sense!
